💡 Spanish speakers often understand these terms in Spanish, but learning them in English makes grammar exercises much easier.
Let’s see how grammar words work inside real sentences.
My brother plays football every weekend.
She is very happy because she passed the exam.
Find the noun, verb, adjective, or preposition in this sentence:
The small dog sleeps under the chair.
Some adjectives are commonly followed by specific prepositions.
In English, it is important to learn some adjectives together with their prepositions.
These combinations help you sound more natural.

| similar to | similar a | This place is similar to my hometown. |
| responsible for | responsable de | He is responsible for the project. |

💡 Learning tip: Do not memorise only interested. Memorise the full chunk:
interested in.
These combinations are useful when you want to describe feelings, abilities, preparation, and time.
Meaning: to like something or someone very much.
Significa: tener cariño por / gustarle mucho algo o alguien.
Context: Use it to talk about things, people, hobbies, or memories you like in a warm or emotional way.

Significa: llegar tarde a algo.
Context: Use it with school, class, work, meetings, appointments, or events.
Examples:
⚠️ Common mistake: Do not say late to class in this context. The most natural phrase is late for class.
Many adjective + preposition combinations do not translate word by word from Spanish. That is why it is better to learn them as complete chunks.
fond of + noun / -ing
capable of + noun / -ing
ready for + noun
late for + noun
Examples: fond of reading, capable of learning, ready for the exam, late for class.
Some verbs need a specific preposition to sound correct and natural.
These are called verb + preposition combinations. Some are also similar to phrasal verbs, but the important thing at A2 level is to learn the full chunk.
| Combination | Spanish Meaning | Example Sentence |

a. of
b. at
c. in
d. on
e. to
Learning English is not only grammar. Culture also helps you understand real communication.
A: Hi! How’s your day?
B: Good, thanks. And you?
This is often just a friendly greeting. You do not need to give a very long answer.
Some English expressions do not translate literally into Spanish.
Meaning: Good luck!
Significa: ¡Buena suerte!
Example: You have your English test today? Break a leg!
Meaning: It is raining heavily. The most traditional and well-known expression—although native speakers rarely use it nowadays—is “It’s raining cats and dogs.” However, these days it is much more common and natural to hear expressions such as “It’s pouring (down).”
Significa: Está lloviendo muchísimo. La expresión más clásica y conocida (aunque hoy en día poco usada por nativos) es "It's raining cats and dogs". Sin embargo, en la actualidad es mucho más común y natural escuchar frases como "It's pouring (down)"
Example: Take an umbrella. It’s raining cats and dogs.
