Simple Present Tense: How to Use It Easily

The simple present tense is one of the most important tools to talk about daily life. ¡Vamos a aprenderlo de manera fácil y práctica! 🌟

What Is the Simple Present Tense?

We use the simple present to talk about:

  • Daily Routines: Actions we do every day. Ejemplo: I drink coffee every mo ing. (Tomo café todas las mañanas.)
  • t
  • Habits: Repeated actions. Ejemplo: She reads before bed. (Ella lee antes de dormir.)
  • t
  • Facts: Things that are always true. Ejemplo: The Earth is round. (La Tierra es redonda.)
  • t
  • Schedules: Timetables for transport, classes, or events. Ejemplo: The bus leaves at 9 AM. (El autobús sale a las 9 AM.)

How to Form the Simple Present Tense

Let’s divide it into three parts: affirmatives, negatives, and questions.

1. Affirmative Sentences (Oraciones afirmativas)

To make a positive sentence, we use the subject + verb. With he, she, or it, we add -s or -es to the verb.

2. Negative Sentences (Oraciones negativas)

To make a negative sentence, we use do not (don’t) or does not (doesn’t) + the base form of the verb.

To ask a question, we start with do or does, followed by the subject and the base form of the verb.
